Review of The Raid 2 (2014) by Rahul P — 30 Jul 2014
May not be the #1 movie, but it's definitely by far the #1 action movie. Filled with bone crushing and blood gushing, this movie will make you scrunch your face with horror...Yet, you want to see more. It may not be as creative like redemption (broken door, refrigerator, light bulb), but it still keeps your jaw wide open with amazement. Like that car chase...GENIUS!
Although there are few flaws in the movie, certain scenes were unnecessary and should have been cut out. Like the porn studio (the topless female and the shadow sex), and the homeless assassin played by Yayan (even though the symbolism of the snow scene was beautiful). Another flaw (but a minor one) was that the subtitles were a little too fast, which makes the storyline a little confusing. But eventually you'll get it when watching it a few times, because of its pure awesomeness.
When it comes to us martial art fans, we don't care about superb acting or a great storyline. All we care about is the martial arts itself. What makes this movie so good is that the action felt real, and it was with a little CG (blood, guns, etc.). The actors are actually hitting each other with natural high speed, but they were trained to hit light so they wouldn't hurt their opponent(s).
Therefore Raid 2 is a must see action movie. Excellent camera shots, scenery symbolism, and of course action. This movie deserves 4 stars.
If Gareth Evans can top this with the third sequel, I will humbly take my hat off and salute to this guy.
