Review of The Revenant (2015) by Hung-Ya L — 21 Feb 2017

It should be noted before seeing 'The Revenant' that it isn't a particuarly happy film. It's actually one of the most brutal, raw and downright cruel movies I've seen...ever. But I can't fault the movie for that - because that's what they wanted to do. And it worked. It features some amazing direction/cinematography and fantastic performances, the stand out for me being Tom Hardy. Whilst the film is a bit too long, features a few unnecessary flashbacks, and can be a bit ridiculous at times, I found the movie to be a unique experience, and one like no other in terms of its sheer brutality.
