Review of The Right Stuff (1983) by Simon H — 06 Jun 2014
Following my viewing of The Right Stuff for the first time, I can not saw I am a fan of the 3 hour historical drama on the space race. However, this is not to say it is a bad film. The film is well written, well cast and well acted. I was also genuinely impressed with how the stock footage was implemented into the film, especially with the varying ratios and colour changes. The music is also successful and feature many familiar music that would have been heard elsewhere since the films release.
Unfortunately, in my opinion, I feel The Right Stuff would be more enjoyable to viewers with any interest in this aspect of the past. The film flows along at a slow pace with many instances of a possible end. For those without an interest in this particular topic may find it a struggle to reach the end without constantly checking the time.
Again this is not to say it is a bad film. It is clear a lot of work has been put into it. The only issue I have is the running time which could be shortened to make it flow easier for others.
