Review of The Rover (2014) by Blake R — 12 Jun 2014
Unrelenting, bleak, poetic and slow...very slow...to slow in fact. David Michod's new film The Rover is a really good film but it's incredibly slow pacing gets very testing especially in the bleak world that is presented.
Beautifully filmed with a great score and great performances from the cast, The Rover presents a more likely future of the world gone down the drain filled with people with nothing left to live for. The Rover is a very bare bones film but what lets it down is that there isn't enough meat to hold onto making a film that is both deep and shallow at the same time.
In the end I still did like the movie quite a bit but was a bit disappointed because of the promise Michod has a filmmaker. Either way I still look forward whatever movie he decides to do next.
