Review of The Seagull (2018) by Steve H — 16 Sep 2018
Great performances. very nice condensed version of the stage play. it really made some of the B storylines much more significant and clear.
Im not really sure what the whole point of the story is after all of it. so what? shes super selfish? and he kills himself? and he spineless? I dont know what the point of it all was. and maybe thats the point but no one grew or learned anything so it was a bit frustrating.
The beginning of the final act when its two years later I thought came on too thick. they intentionally used the same footage and sequence as the opening and it went on long enough I thought the movie restarted instead of there being an artistic decision.
Watching this boris trigorin I realize I had it all wrong when I played him. this one was right. hes just spineless is all. generally nice and normal, but spineless. my ego driven charismatic asshole villain was all wrong.
