Review of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013) by Pavandeep S — 25 Dec 2014
Over saturated colours, perfectly exposed shots, and individual frames polished to a plastic hollywood uniformity; the secret life of Walter Mitty is detached from the grit of reality despite preaching a worldly message.
This film romanticizes a life of reckless abandon founded in the sinful cliché of a nerdy dude quitting his mundane job to live an edgy life. "I pictured you as this little gray piece of paper, but now I see you and it's like Indiana Jones decided to become the lead singer of The Strokes" The recurring message in this film is that it's cool to be adventurous, and that people will like you if you live with reckless abandon; a moral echoed by modern indie culture that suggests that the purpose of an experience is not personal fulfillment but to turn heads.
Shallow movie.
