Review of The Secret of NIMH (1982) by Lee D — 10 Jun 2015
I have always been a fan of the Don Bluth animated films. American tale and the original land before time are among my favorite films of all time. Somehow, though, Secret of NIMH went under my radar and I never got around to seeing it til recently.
this is one of the best of Bluth's films I've seen. the story is very interesting and original, dealing with a very uncommon element that animated films rarely focus on (mostly referring to the focus on the story of a single mother.
) the characters are well written and have a great deal of personality and charm. the animation is top notch, as expected in a Bluth film. lastly, again as with other Bluth films, the tone of the film is very honest and doesn't treat kids like babies but like young adults.
Nothing is sugar coated but it's not over the top dark either and I've always liked that about Bluth's films, he treats kids with respect. All in all this is a gem and one of the best animated films I've seen in a long while.
If you haven't checked this one out, do yourself a favor and get a hold of a copy. Here's to hoping that Don Bluth makes a comeback.
