Review of The Secrets We Keep (2020) by Jluis_001 — 27 Sep 2020
I have no problem with exploitation films. A lot of them are quite interesting and entertaining, but I do have a problem with this one because of the way it takes his crucial narrative element to make it look more ceremonial than it really is.
And that is that the reason behind the violence is revenge rooted in an event that occurred in the Holocaust.
The Secrets We Keep is a remake of Roman Polanski's Death and the Maiden and although that film is hardly memorable, you can tell the difference between the directors and when I mention that, I don't mean it because the story is necessarily bad, its problem is that it never works convincingly.
The performances are not bad either, but they fail to create a believable atmosphere and what remains is not satisfactory and sadly the film resorts to the sad fact that you have to accept what follows without an option and needs you to avoid asking why they couldn't do it in a more intelligent way.
What a disappointment.
