Review of The Shallows (2016) by Katie D — 11 Feb 2018
Literally one of the most trash movies I have ever seen. First of all, the nods towards modern technology in the beginning of the movie were very staged and unnatural, and the subliminal messages paired with that use of technology reminded me of crass baby boomers writing click-bait articles about the failure of millennials.
Additionally, it was so unrealistic. I know that's low hanging fruit to criticize, but come on. There is no way that the movie's heroine would have been able to kill a shark on her own, or that she wouldn't have bled out from a bite, or gained gangrene on that bite mark because of lack of sanitation.
Blake lively is a good actor. The writer of the script was not. When I saw this movie with my friends, I recall literally laughing at parts most likely meant to be dramatic or deep. I remember this movie as a comedy.
Not a thriller or some action-packed, edge-of-your-seat drama.
