The Shape of Water features some masterful acting from the likes of Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, and Sally Hawkins that helps make this film stand out. The score and visuals are well done as well.
The issue with this movie is that the story-line is very formulaic with a love being forbidden by someone and a bad guy trying to take it all down. While the style is definitely stand-out, I wish more effort was put into unique storytelling.
