Review of The Shining (1980) by Robertobrien — 09 Oct 2015
I will say that this film is a bit too long and not not very scary, but it is atmospheric and well-thought out. Watching it from beginning to end is like descending into Hell, you feel like you're going crazy. And for a movie that's 2 hours and 20 minutes long, it manages to stay interesting (for the most part) with nothing but one setting and three actors.
I'm not sure who claimed this to be a masterpiece of modern horror, because it's no masterpiece. Not to say it was bad, there's just little special about it other than Jack Nicholson's performance. But what is lost in character and story, is made up for with tone and the Godsend that is Nicholson.
