Review of The Siege of Jadotville (2016) by David B — 06 Oct 2016
When I was at school in Belfast in the 1960's I never really understood why a term of abuse used by the Irish Christian Brothers was to call boys "Balubas". I only learnt in recent years that it stemmed from the involvement of the Irish Army as UN peacekeepers in the Congo of the early 60's.
This gripping film tells the story of one hushed up episode of enormous bravery. The film is action packed and is reminiscent of the classic film 'Zulu' about the battle of Rorke's Drift. Apart from Jamie Dornan's excellent performance an added reason to watch the film is that if you never liked the Irish politician Conor Cruise O'Brien it will confirm the correctness of your prejudice.
