Review of The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010) by Hunter O — 05 Aug 2011
I'm cheating. I haven't even finished watching this movie.
But I can predict right now, that Dave will defeat Morgana, get the girl, release Balthazar and HAPPY END! (boring).
One GIANT mistake of this movie is Nicolas Cage. Gosh. I just hate to see him on screen, especially in this one. I do get the feeling that every time he steps away from sight the things we see on screen turn from UGH to ENJOYABLE! (the Sorcerer's Apprentice by Goethe scene, for instance).
Yes, there are some very creative ideas in the movie, the reverse world, the, like I said Goethe scene, the music inducing Faraday cage and other little things are the things you should look out for, because for a fantasy movie this ranks about half a mile below Percy Jackson.
Jay Baruchel is really cute in this. Okay acting, too. It's just that I can't stand the other cast members, especially Nic Cage.
Finished watching the last 15 minutes now. And HECK! I was RIGHT!
After researching on imdb then and its board, I found a lot of hate towards Jay Baruchel, which I really don't get. He was the only one giving a performance true to his character that wasn't cheesy. Teresa Palmer was HORRIBLE, I didn't notice until just now.
The cast in general isn't very convincing. Alfred Molina, a total waste of a villain. Terrible cast!
The final battle was just WTF?! And incredibly boring. Not good at all..
The only thing to land this in my DVD collection are the little magic things that happen: (see above), the metamorphosis of the paper dragon, the steel bull, etc. and Jay Baruchel. Teehee.
