Review of The Stoning of Soraya M. (2009) by Miriam S — 02 Sep 2010
She didn't meet her accusors with tears. There are certain films that transcend the medium to touch upon subjects we can't dare to face. I've seen plenty of shocking horror, gore, violence, rape, death on film, but sitting through this film from beginning to end was about the toughest thing.
.I feel shaken at this very moment, rattled to the core. Strongly recommended, but be cautioned, you will walk away from this experience numbed, outraged, disgusted, quite possibly in tears. How can we dare to call ourselves human beings, knowing what we are capable of doing? And yet somehow we do.
.we find ways to justify it and go on with ourselves. Somehow. How can this be critiqued as simply a film? Actors, editing, music, directing? I can't even begin to try.
