The visual is beautiful.
Action is smooth. Style is cute. Con: The voice acting is the typical soulless Hollywood style (Except for Jack Black's performance on Bowser, he is great). Why can't they just hire the original game voicePro:

The voice acting is the typical soulless Hollywood style (Except for Jack Black's performance on Bowser, he is great). Why can't they just hire the original game voice actor? Why is the video game industry so obsessed with Hollywood?
Some of the music is downright lazy and unoriginal, especially when they have so much good Mario music to choose from. But no, they choose the most overused and cliche American pop song, yes, they are good songs, but they just wouldn't fit.
Neutral:
The plot is brainlessly simple without any twist, but I wouldn't hold it against them. Hey, that's a kid movie, just turn off your brain and enjoy it with your family.
