Review of The Sword in the Stone (1963) by Vincent C — 07 Sep 2011
"The Sword in the Stone" is probably the most disappointing Disney movie I've seen. Unlike most other Disney animated adventures "The Sword in the Stone" fails to be involve its viewer.
The only character that's the least bit interesting is the wizard Merlin. At times he is quite entertaining and one of the reasons I almost gave this movie 3 stars. But, at the end I couldn't do it.
This movie just fails to capture the magic that other Disney movies have in the past. I felt nothing for Wart/Arthur, the main character, and didn't care if he succeeded in pulling out the sword or not, and even that sequence only happens in the last 5 minutes.
Another problem I had is that there's really no villain in this movie. Sure, Arthur gets in some trouble when he's transformed into a fish, but that's about it. If you're looking to watch a true Disney classic go watch something like "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", because this certainly is not it.
