Review of The Sword of Doom (1966) by Tim M — 05 Dec 2009
The title itself shows it's immense age, but I don't know if Doom Katana sounds any better (The Pass of the Boddhisattva is the Japanese title). In the four decades since this film was made things like the crude milling metaphor seem so quaint now.
It is often boring, but as a build up to the climax it succeeds. The directing is well done and ending is great. Japanese film came a long way in the 15 years since Rashomon, but some of the primitive austerity remains, the sound is terrible.
