Review of The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974) by Grant S — 08 Sep 2014
Great thriller-drama. Original plot, well told. Quite gritty and unpredictable, filled with moments of genuine intrigue. Nothing can be forespelled, unlike many Hollywood movies.
Some good humourous moments too.
Excellent performance by Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw in the lead roles. Matthau is the most unlikely of heroes, and this is one of the reasons the movie is so good.
Good support from Jerry Stiller (Ben's father. Yes, he did stuff before Seinfeld...).
Much better than the 2009 remake.
