Review of The Thing (1982) by Shawn D — 15 Jan 2019
If any remake can say it is the best ever made it would be John Carpenter's the Thing. Unlike the classic black and white version this version is more respectful of the original material. Carpenter holds nothing back and the body horror is so disturbing that many images you will never forget.
The acting is perfection to boot. Every character has specific identities, emotional ticks and agendas. You honestly don't know who to trust and even the end of the film is still debated to this day for who is who.
If you are a science fiction fan you must see this. If you are a horror fan you must see this. If you want a suspenseful film and you haven't seen this before it will stress you out and that is exactly what suspense films are supposed to do.
I cannot say enough good things about this movie and when depressed about how bad movies are since 2015 I will usually feel better watching this or other old films that I love. However I have to warn you, if you don't like using your brain or paying attention to details then I suggest you skip this one because this film expects you to have relative intelligence.
Otherwise that last sentence should entice you enough to see the film because a good movie should at it's core make you think.
