Review of The Thing (2011) by Keith W — 22 Jun 2016
Barely recognisable as a prequel and almost completely void of thrills and suspense, Matthijs van Heijningen Jr's horror reboot is quite possibly the worst film of 2011. In giving CGI predominance over animatronics and traditional make-up effects, Heijningen Jr takes away the very essence of what made John Carpenter's film great, leaving behind little more than a catalogue of predictable murders and tedious "it could be any one of us!" debates.
In short, 'The Thing' is nothing more than a low-rent reenactment of the original, equally as uninspiring as it is shamefully derivative. Stay well away.
