Review of The Virgin Suicides (2000) by Thomas B — 28 Jan 2015
I'm going to be simple with this one. This movie is a beautiful drama that is too good to rate even if you're too strict with you're ratings, This is my review of The Virgin Suicides. The story is about a family known as the Lisbons who are living a ordinary enough family Mr.
Lisbon is a maths teacher and Mrs.Lisbon has a strong religious faith and they have five teenage daughters ranging from 13-year-old Cecelia to 17-year-old Therese. However, their family's sense of normalcy is shattered when the youngest Cecelia falls into depression and attempts suicide.
The family is shaken and the parents seeks advice from a psychiatrist who suggests that the girls should be allowed to socialize more with boys. However, the boys soon become a serious problem for Lux Lisbon who has attracted the eye of a high school teen named Trip.
Who assures Mr.Lisbon of his good intentions. But things turn disastrous when Cecilia finally kills herself, throwing the Lisbons into a panic and after a school dance, Trip seduces Lux and abandons her.
The Lisbons pull their daughters out of school but as Mrs.Lisbon keeps a close watch over them but Lux continues to attract the attention of the local boys goes through a series of sexual episodes with random partners as often she can sneak out of the house.
The cast is really talented both young and old; I like Kirsten Dunst, I like Josh Hartnett, I like Danny DeVito and there's several more actors in there. The story and the image of the film is both excellently written and directed.
Overall, The Virgin Suicides gets a true 10/10.
