Review of The Voices (2014) by Cameron J — 17 Mar 2015
A highly entertaining horror-comedy, "The Voices" is one of the most messed-up films I've seen in quite some time. It's grisly, macabre and full of over-the-top humor, and it's consistently entertaining despite trying to be hundreds of things at once.
Director Marjane Statrapi, who helmed one of my favorite animated films, "Persepolis", proves she can handle material across the board, mixing and matching different genres and somehow making them all fit together.
Ryan Reynolds gives the best performance of his career (at least that I've seen), and the supporting cast, with Gemma Arterton, Anna Kendrick, Jacki Weaver and more, are all excellent. It's colorful, silly, and at times repulsive, but you can't keep your eyes (or ears) off of "The Voices".
