Review of The Watcher (2000) by Linus C — 08 Apr 2012
It's just good enough to not even be a bad film. It's pure mediocrity. Keanu Reeves is badly miscast and doesn't manage to be even slightly creepy, but James Spader, in all fairness, turns out a decent performance as a burned-out cop.
Overall, The Watcher isn't nearly as stylish, thrilling, elegant, or suspenseful as it seems to think it is. It's reminiscent of realist theatre where nothing too interesting or surprising happens in faith to real life.
It's films like these that make us long for the high-contrast, twisting surrealism of Fincher.
