Review of The Way of the Gun (2000) by Oliver W — 05 Oct 2018
The Way of the Gun lives up to its title with a few skillful gunfights and a tense final showdown. But the film fails to provide any worthy protagonist(s) amid a lackadaisical storyline that could've at least been engaging if it weren't so long.
The performances, especially, are predominantly weak, but del Toro and Caan are still decent. Also trying to replicate too many different cinematic tones between Western, gangster, and detective, the final product is a cheap, derivative crime thriller.
