Review of The Wicker Man (2006) by Joe O — 21 Aug 2018
I don't remember the Wicker Man being as bad as everyone claims it to be. The internet absolutely hates this movie at best and remembers some of its many unintentionally hilarious moments. Indeed, Neil LaBute's The WICKER Man is the embodiment of the so bad it's good cinema.
The plot is such that a Sherriff encounters a strange bunch of people on an island as he tries to solve the mystery of an abducted girl. One problem this film faces is that the original Wicker Man was a very well-remembered chilly feature film featuring a creepy atmosphere.
But that does not explain Cage's descent into madness as he hams it way up, even by his high standards. The scenes of him punching a woman in a bear suit or him crying out "Not the bees "could not have been taken seriously by anyone on the set whilst filming.
It is bizarre how no-one stood up and everyone just went along. If you can overlook the unintentional hilarity(or roll with it) the film does have some nice scenery.
