Review of The Witch (2016) by Jonathan I — 10 Oct 2018
As smart as this story is, it contains an unnecessary boring starkness. Sure, it's a slow-building horror, but why? It doesn't have to be. It would've benefited by using that emptiness with answering many of its loose ends.
As it is, its lack of answers doesn't add to the horror; it just makes it seem even more ungrounded. It's a script of great potential that just needed a little more time in the writers room.
