Review of This Is Spinal Tap (1984) by Adam R — 20 Apr 2014
The ultimate Mock-rock-documentary, "This Is Spinal Tap" draws on elements of glam metal and music trends, as well as the Beatles' film "Let It Be", to create one of the greatest cult comedies of all-time.
The film debut of Rob Reiner, and starring Reiner, Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer, this partially improvised film tells the story of the greatest fictional rock band of the era, Spinal Tap, who are complete with in-band disputes, sexist album covers, interfering girlfriends, miniature Stonehenges, multiple dead drummers and an amplifier that goes up to 11.
It's witty, it's funny, it's rife with pop culture references, and it's just brilliantly iconic and incredibly British.
5/5.
