Review of Thor: Ragnarok (2017) by Craig H — 02 Feb 2018
Consider this a super hero comedy where the humor goes over the top with constant back & forth zingers, ala Abbott & Costello style. But it works for what it's trying to accomplish. Not all jokes were well executed as some of the comedy felt forced.
Overall, this was a rousing good time filled with the usual action and colorful set pieces that makes Ragnarok the best Thor to date. Taika Waititi brings in his own flavor to the Marvel franchise with some choice edits that work mostly in his favor - with the exception of using the Led Zepplin music in awkward fashion.
Cate Blanchett's Hela is one of the more memorable Marvel villains of recent memory and deserved more screen time. Also kudos to the wacky meshing of Star Wars-like sci-fi blended in with Norse mythos, with a small hint of 80s goodness.
