Review of Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022) by Compi24 — 06 Sep 2022
An intriguing concept is nearly unraveled by scattershot thematics and a finale that ultimately fails to deliver upon the promises set up in the first and second acts. "Three Thousand Years Of Longing" finds Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton giving things their all in a story that feels a lot more inconsequential than it should.
The esoteric and abnormal structure is to be admired, as I quite liked the vignettes littered throughout. I just don't think any of it felt like it amounted to much in the end. There are also a few effects here and there that evoke laughter, when I don't think that was necessarily the intended result.
You have to love a movie taking a crack at a fairly low-concept, but execution is key. In this case, I don't think this is the best version this could have been.
