Review of Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie (2012) by Joey G — 22 Mar 2013
At this point, after years of Tim and Eric's absurdist-by-way-of-Lynchian brand of humor remaining such a black sheep in today's comic landscape, people should know exactly what to expect from their feature debut.
Tim and Eric refuse to make a commercial film at all, giving it the tone and format of their TV work, but it makes for a very clumsy film overall. The film has some astounding scenes of demented hilarity (only Tim and Eric could make these crass jokes about masturbation and diarrhea even remotely funny), the cast is great, and it makes perfect sense for the duo to do a film about film, but it succumbs to overkill.
Like Aqua Teen Hunger Force and countless SNL sketches before them, the formula of the show is far more effective over a brief period of time, and their Billion Dollar Movie's latter half goes on a steady decline on both laughs and interest.
Still, already fans probably should see the movie, while the uninitiated should already know they're not invited to the party.
