Review of To Catch a Killer (2023) by Bertobellamy — 09 Jul 2023
Such a bummer that they didn't use the 'Misanthrope' title in the US because 'To Catch a Killer' is so generic and misses the point of what this movie is about. Yes, the protagonists try to catch a killer, but this is about a system based on morbid entertainment, hyperconsumerism, and mass surveillance that disposes of everyone that does not live up to its standards.
Of course, the thesis that concerns the system as responsible for mass shooters is controversial, but the discomfort it produces only can be read as a warning of how a brutal way of life is pushing some individuals to the brink of insanity.
The question is how do we deal with it? And that’s where Shailene Woodley and Ralph Ineson's characters bring some light on why some people cross the line and others don't.
