Review of Tomorrow, When the War Began (2010) by Jonathan B — 05 Jan 2011
Whats happened to the Australian film industry? It seems to be dying a slow death especially with an absolute waste of time like this film. At least pick some decent actors and not get the actors from the Home and Away reject bin.
I found myself quite unchallenged and bored thru this whole affair. I found myself not really caring for the characters and the story which is from a novel an un original piece of fluff. The story feels like a rip off from the 80's American teen classic Red Dawn mixed in with the cast from Home and Away.
In fact it makes me very angry to see yet again a half assed wasted. Is it the good directing or the funding that is lacking one can only guess. The government is cutting funding to the film industry I heard, well that will be a disaster and kill Aussie films I find that very sad no wonder so many directors are leaving to direct films in America and Europe.
I still have faith in the Aussie industry that it will pull it self out of the funk its in. but with films like this Im starting to lose my faith on the Australian industries revival. This left it open for a sequel but in the end who really cares.
