Review of Top Gun: Maverick (2022) by Gumdrop — 04 Sep 2022
I’m always concerned when they do remakes, reboots or sequels of iconic, favourite movies. I was pretty nervous about this one. But they did a great job. They managed to capture the feeling and nostalgia of the original. In some ways, it feels like it was made just a few years after the original. And somehow, they managed to avoid polluting it with too much woke, political stuff. It felt both new and old at the same time. A nice little trip down nostalgia road. Plenty of feels in this one.
The flight manoeuvres were seriously exciting to watch. They easily topped the first movie. Bonus points for keeping Danger Zone. Not just keeping, but starting with it. To make a Top Gun without Danger Zone would have been a travesty.
On a more amusing note. It occurred to me that the mission was basically the Death Star trench run.
