Review of Train to Busan (2016) by Jason T — 03 Nov 2018
First of all if you don't watch foreign films, you are missing out. If your watching them with closed captions (unless you have a reading disorder, I wouldn't want anyone to think I was not being sensitive) then you are missing out as well. When you watch a film with dubbed over voices it will take you out of the movie a little. I have found myself a fan of foreign film especially Korean and Japanese cinema. Train To Busan was on so many must see lists in 2016, I'm ashamed to say I just got around to it.
The film is about a man who's daughter wants to go see her mother in Busan. The dad is the stereotypical hard-working dad that doesn't have time for his daughter. After convincing him to take her to Busan with a little help from her grandmother, the two head out to visit the mother.
This is one of the best zombie movies I have seen in some time. It's honestly because The Walking Dead has been so stale that I stayed away from this movie. Zombies had gone stale for me. That's unfortunate because when they're done well Zombie movies are an excellent reflection of society and what happens to humans under the pressure of trying to survive. The level of suspense and intensity builds and builds with every minute that passes. The acting in this film is amazing, the characters are believable and fully realized. I like the chemistry this cast has and the journey the characters go through in the course of this film. There is something about being in such close quarters with the characters and zombies that allows for more suspense than you get from other movies like this.
I recommend this movie to anyone out there that enjoys suspense and characters to get invested in. I would hope that anyone that is a fan of Romero or The Walking Dead would check this out. If you're not a fan of those, I would still check this movie out. It's something that you will enjoy and wish The Walking Dead would be half as good as. I give this film 3 out of 3 geeks. I know that they plan on remaking this for American audiences, even though I don't think they should. It's a universal story of a father and daughter, and I think people should check this one out.
