Review of Transcendence (2014) by Filmgrinder S — 10 Sep 2014
File under 'transhumanistic predictive programming'. It's always hard to tell if movies like this are pro- or anti- agenda, but nevertheless, the idea of omnipotent AI, the internet of things and that whole Kurzweil thing is once again implanted in our collective consciousness, ready to bloom in some distant future. That's the main reason many critics dislike this movie, they are still under the impression that movies are there to entertain. And eventhough some actually do, many movies are only there to implant a message. In this case the message was that the big bad AI was only there to help us, to plant flowers and grow trees. I for one would have to think long and hard whether or not to join the flower power machine given the setup in this movie, but if transplanted to real life it sounds like a fucking nightmare.
Apart from the potential NWO programming though, I thought the acting was pretty good, production value was amazing, story took a lot of elements from previous movies, but was never the less quite engaging, so just as mindless entertainment it gets a 7. However because I'm not sure what message they're trying to send I have to detract one point.
