Review of TransSiberian (2008) by Ky K — 18 Aug 2013
TRANSIBERIAN (2008): This Director caught my attention with SESSION 9 back in 2001, and though it felt somewhat tepid to me at the time, I knew he showed a lot of promise for the future and I was right as his productivity has yielded some truly enjoyable films since ditching the quasi-romantic-lite films he did prior to SESSION 9, such as NEXT STOP WONDERLAND etc etc.
This is easily my 2nd favourite Brad Anderson flick as this movie is perhaps his most adventurous yet in the sense that it combines travel adventure with a murder mystery story on a train and entwines the lives of 4 unlikely travellers for one hell of a ride.
Some terrific performances by Ben Kingsley and a rather goofy, demurely well played part by Woody Harrelson, but I think it's safe to say the REAL star is actually the movie itself, which is precisely what I love most about this film.
Not only is it a tightly wound Suspense/Thriller but it also inspires you to want to go on the real Trans-Siberian Express journey at some point in the future! This is a film I will always remember fondly and return to for future viewing, highly recommended for all fans of high-adventure, travel, murder-mysteries and suspense thrillers that satisfy! [SCORE: 10/10].
