Turning Red is totally brilliant and I thought wonderful fun. I'm a guy, and I appreciate being able to see a film that so cleverly puts you right in the experience of being a Chinese-Canadian teen girl.
The animation is fantastic, the performances so charming, and the way the story interweaves many parts of growing up (emotional, physical, cultural, familial) is just gold star all the way. The scene towards the end where the daughter and mother meet literally eye to eye and you see the way that harm spirals through families, that took my breath away.
