This movie received bad review because it was too "Lynchian" for its times maybe but that's what makes it so unique. It can be fully appreciated only if you watched the first two seasons of Twin Peaks otherwise its plot makes little sense.
Just like most of Lynch's movie it leaves you dazzled and puzzled but it is also very moving because of the focus on Laura Palmer's tragedy. The ending scene is a masterpiece.
