Review of Under The Greenwood Tree (2005) by Sarah G — 01 Jan 2009
It was a hasty and shoddy representation of the novel, which I have not read but am assuming is much better. I understand from reading reviews of the book that much was skipped over in the movie. They could have greatly developed the characters and their relationships more if they would have stuck to the book.
As it is, the characters are too flimsy to really be invested in. It's obvious what will happen from the start so in the first 10 minutes you'll know the whole story and can save yourself the other 80.
I did enjoy a period piece that was not about the upper class. The movie could have gone far but it fell way too short.
