Review of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) by Jake B — 08 Nov 2018
Unlike many reviewers, I was never under the impression that this movie was supposed to be an emotionally deep, romance-action, intellectually fulfilling, realistic, sci-fi space drama.
It is a great fun, quirky, sometimes cheesy and stupid, amazing sci-fi movie with attractive characters and mind blowing scenery. It's good for what it is.
You don't see a James Bond movie and expect a dynamic, realistic romance where his lovers come to grips with his life threatening career. You see it to see James Bond being a bad-ass.
Same goes for many movies, especially super hero movies such as Wonder Woman which got great reviews even though it was super cliche and had bad acting.
Valérian is great for what it is. Don't let the sophisticated reviewers sitting on their high horses looking down their noses at it deter you. Go see it it is a lot of fun!
