Review of Voices of a Distant Star (2002) by Kimsa G — 21 Mar 2008
My heart goes out to Makoto Shinkai for the triumph of constructing this entire thing all by himself. The animation is spot on, while some of the story addresses interesting points about time dilation and the effects of deep space travel.
Other than that, I will never understand why people offer this film such undue praise. I didn't really care much for the story itself because all it does is show the distance widening between the two characters, both of them sinking into depression, while the war gets worse with no clear resolution.
I almost wanted that half-hour of my life back.
