Review of Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2007) by Danielw — 04 Jan 2008
Mr. Apatow has got to stop reading his own press. Not everything that springs forth from his imagination is funny. This certainly isn't. In its proximity to biopics that came out in the last couple of years, it displays the laziness of the Scary Movie/Date Movie franchise.
The Spinal Tap comparisons may not be fair, but they are only natural given the theme, and suffice it to say that Walk Hard suffers in comparison. There were exactly two bits that evinced a bit of comedic imagination: the Beatles' encounter (I am sure much of that was ad libbed by Jack Black, Jason Schwartzmannm, et al) and the Dylan spoof.
The rest was no better than a bad SNL skit, extended ad nauseam. Reilly is a decent singer, though.
