Review of What Ever Happened to Aunt Alice? (1969) by Benne S — 17 Apr 2016
I hadn't seen this since I watched it as a child in the 70s and I have to say I really enjoyed seeing it again.
Although not at all scary it is still very entertaining and slightly comedic. Its also an interesting window into how much the horror/thriller genre of film.
Has changed in the almost 50 years since this was made. Whilst this is less well known and therefore less popular than Hitchcock's 'Psycho', in my opinion it definitely deserves the same "classic" status. Perhaps even cult status.
Geraldine Page is wonderful as a neurotic, reclusive, cocktail drinking psychopath. I love the way she laughs after she has notched up a new victim.
Ruth Gordon (Minnie Castevet in Rosemary's baby) is equally good as the ballsy Mrs Dimmock aka Aunt Alice.
