Review of What Happened to Monday (2017) by Jonathan B — 19 Mar 2018
Once you take on the ludicrous central idea of this movie, it actually becomes an entertaining mystery thriller. Noomi Rapace plays seven identiacal sisters born into a world where, due to population overcrowding, there is a strict, one child policy.
In order to overcome this, each of the sisters lives in hiding and is only allowed out on the one day each week that bears her name. When one of the siblings, Monday, fails to return home, it falls to her sisters to investigate.
The realisation of the seven sisters is really well done here and Noomi Rapace handles the subtle and not so subtle differences between each character well. The plot has several twists and turns making it a convoluted, violently action packed journey at times.
However, the revelation that one of the foundations of the society in which the story is set, is not all that it appears to be is rather obvious from the outset and Glenn Close is rather wasted as the pantomime villain of the piece.
