Review of Whatever Works (2009) by Masorad ( — 27 Jul 2010
After being admonished for using cliches for the nth time, Wood's character says to Allen stand-in David that, well, sometimes they're the best approximation of the truth. WW is indeed cliched (carpe diem & tempus fugit) but the setup is really just a comedic showcase for a supermisanthropic Larry David (Curb on a speedball) with numerous laugh-out-loud moments.
Keep in mind that you're watching a film by a 74-year-old, here in a somewhat conciliatory mood, far removed from the bleakness of other recent work. No one does acerbic funny like Allen, except for David doing Allen.
