Review of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2016) by Lilianetty L — 10 Mar 2016
This movie is stuck on my head. Like the song "Take on Me" (damn it, so good scene!). Without giving much away you may need to be prepared to a lot of things: 1st if you are a fan of Tina Fey, you will love her character "Kim" (you may even identify with her in a few "key" moments). If you adore Martin Freeman, you may feel MORE respect and admiration for him (I do! I'm supporting you with my heart!). This two make this film a blast! Margot Robbie cannot be left behind. She also does a marvelous job! (no doubt why she is perfect for "Suicide Squad"). Emotionally this movie is a roller coaster. You may laugh, cry, get angry, all of it. I almost cried to be honest to a point I was like "hell no!" *wish I could tell you the reason why but can't". Anyway, let's go to my review:
Acting: Tina Fey as "Kim Baker" does a brilliant job. I really enjoyed her performance to a point I could felt her pain and misery but at the same time her joy and soul and really she should do more movies with the next great thing this movie has: Martin Freeman. His role "Iain MacKelpie" is a Scots war photographer who get's introduced by some point to "Kim's" life in Kabul. This character is very powerful if you ask me. You will suffer for him, love him, want to hang out with him. I really enjoyed it. Brilliant work Martin! (LOT OF SCREEN TIME!) Margot Robbie as "Tanya" is a friend of "Kim" at her time in Kabul. She is of those friends you can talk with but at the same time can hate her. Can't spoil more here...watch the film for it!
Directing + Editing + Rhythm: The photography on this movie is wonderful! I really enjoyed every shot of it and the editing I really loved it! Kinda remind me of the style of Martin Scorsese. Glenn Ficarra and John Requa as directors of this movie did a great job with this great cast and extras (you could tell they had fun working in it). Robert Carlock adapting the book to script (if I can call it adapted) did also a great job. In case of rhythm the film at start felt super slow but it was coz of the introduction of characters (that's normal and I get it). The film starts to feel alive in the half of it. Still all works and I liked it.
Music Score + Song Choices: Damn, this soundtrack felt so 80's I loved it! The music score was also very moving at some points *j'adore it!* I believe many will sing in that karaoke part (I wanted to do it LOL).
So yes, this is my review for WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT based on the book of Kim Baker called "The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan".
Enjoy and go support them! This movie will move you *only if you are open mind enough to understand it and love it to the max*.
