I really only take issue with the writing, the story felt quite riveting up until it attempted to create meaning, very underwritten in how it tried to express the themes of despair but ironically or accurate(I really don't know the intention was)it worked quite well with it's absurdist humor, a dollar store Yorgos Lanthimos film.
Baumbach still created a distinct rhythm that you grow quite fond of as you move along with Jack and the world. Dysstopian-esque but dystopian in a way which bothered me, it felt like a plot device, only a deus ex-machina tactic to wound Jack with the conscience of death.
I loved up until the 3rd act, the middle was when it started showing cracks in the story but the last 3rd was really when everything started to fall apart. It felt more as if Noah Baumbach grew tired of writing the story and wanted to finish it as soon as possible, it ended too swiftly and the climax it wanted to build up to, just collapsed right before it could work.
