Review of Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie (2009) by Michael M — 26 Jan 2013
No matter how hard I try I really can't hate on it. It effectively does what it sets out to do, and does so with relative success. It'll entertain kids, and adults will be able to tolerate it. It's a little hard not to get caught up in the overall warmth and sweetness, and in the end I actually found myself liking it.
The performances and effects are TV level, which is to be expected, but the locations are lovely to look out and while simple the plot took enough interesting turns. I never found it funny, but the moments of dramatic tenderness were actually very appealing.
It's a moderately successful modern Disney Channel Flick, and while it could be better, the product presented is still better than it has any need to be.
