Review of You Were Never Really Here (2017) by John A — 24 Nov 2018
I guess I'm just not deep enough to get the subtext, or the metaphors, or whatever. I just see a guy staring blankly between violent fits of rage, and then a girl staring blankly. (They make a lovely couple.
) I also didn't get all the long sequences of walking really slow or driving really fast. And why did he have to take off his shirt before that last interminable walking really slow sequence? It's a decent short (if you like really dark) stretched out into a dull feature- unless you're as deep as 64% of the audience.
Then its' riveting!
