Review of Young and Innocent (1937) by Mark S — 24 Sep 2008
I wasn't too impressed with this one. Considering the four films that had preceded it, Hitchcock was taking a step back. It seems more dated than it actually should be. The average cast has something to do with that, but I don't think Hitch paced the film very well either.
It's another early example of an innocent man being wrongly accused of murder, but it doesn't bear much comparison to the likes of The 39 Steps. There's an okay scene in a mine and the shot that reveals the real murderer was quite good for the time, but overall the film's just a bit daft.
It does at least feature a funny Hitchcock cameo.
